We’ve talked to you before about some of the key fashion statements in music videos, but MIA’s recent video, “Bad Girls” might be the most fashion forward of the year. The Fader pointed out some of their favorite co-star outfits, but we know that fashion and style isn’t only what you wear but how it’s worn. The confidence and attitude in the above video put half-steppers to shame.

While Lil’ Wayne is trying to convince everyone that he’s a skateboarder by creating Trukfit, an out of touch line that will not be supported by the skate community, A$AP Rocky is coming up as the true new fashion icon to watch out for. Rocky’s most recent video “Wassup” (Directed by A$AP Rocky and Andy Capper) is chock-full of fashion trends for 2012 from tassel loafers to French silk scarves. And not to forget the girl above whose 5 seconds seem to steal the video.

Louis Vuitton’s iconic logo print bags have cycled through some edgy collaborations (see: Stephen Sprouse, Takashi Murakami), restyling the aesthetics of legendary Louis bags. But to mark their 100th anniversary, the luxury goods leader collaborates with British artist Billie Achilleos for Maroquinaris Zoologicae--even at 100, it’s great to see that the brand is playful.
Achilleos reimagines classic Louis Vuitton bags, wallets, and accoutrements as fashionable fauna, all with a function of reflecting design elements of Louis Vuitton in their inherent forms—Achilleos says, “The armadillo was to highlight the soft yet durable quality of the leather. The chameleon displays the variety of color.” Form, function, and fashion? If only these could escape from the zoo and into production.

I’ve been seeing this shotgun patch all over menswear lately and have to say I’m really feeling it. But I would want it to ba a bit more pronounced with a rose pattern or paisley would really pop.
Yelle has been a Parisian pop star since her 2007 release of “Pop Up” and struck an international chord with the electro dance scene of the time. When looking back at her videos of the time the color palate and fashion could not be more hyper-current of 2007. Now with the release of the “Comme Un Efant” music video she has done it again. If you’re wondering what colors will define 2011 look no further, not to mention the playful cuteness of Yelle from the video will pull on your heart strings.

10,000 square meters. 5, 000 dresses. 180 fashion shows. Themed galleries. A master class with a fashion virtuoso. Sartorlists, feast your eyes on The Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum. The project, developed by the Valentino designer and his longtime partner Giancarlo Giammetti, is finally here after two years in the making. This is one surefire way to get Gen Ys more involved in museum life. We’re on the lookout for growing ‘mouse’ museums.

Menswear doesn’t have a lot of options, so it’s all about the details. One of the details that dominated the last year has been cuffing ones pants, and even shorts over the summer. But now fashion influencers are moving on (or back) to the fray. A look that I’m really feeling right now for almost any outfit.

It’s a beard! No, it’s a beanie! No, it’s a … Beardo Beard Hat? Precisely. The statement-making knit beanies, designed by Canadian snowboarder Jeff Phillips, come with an optional thicket of scruff. Legions of men may now feel warmer, and, well, just a trifle manlier. We just know some prepubescent lad out there is jumping for joy.

When I think of “Terry Richardson” and “photo shoot,” I don’t typically associate those with “socks.” But the edgiest sock brand of all (and one of our favorite holiday gifts), Happy Socks, has pulled off arguably the highest budget sock shoot ever for their 2011 holiday campaign, in which their brightly patterned socks sub for bras and capes. It wouldn’t be Terry Richardson without with some tongue-in-cheek sock sex appeal.

Burberry is innovating its iconic classic trench with an interactive, online bespoke program. Burberry Bespoke is the British label’s open embrace of the mass customization that retailers like Nike pioneered, however unusual it may be for a luxury fashion house. Customers can choose the cut, color, and detailing (mink, studs, and leather, anyone?) of the coat, which is simulated on-screen and then delivered four to eight weeks later from the Burberry factory in England. But to prevent any terrible trenches from marring the label’s traditional look, the program automatically removes some choices, so that a studded-sleeve shearling coat with fuchsia accents never sees the light of day under the burberry brand.

It’s pretty hard to make jeans feel new and exciting. And I’ll admit I wasn’t THAT into the faux snakeskin jeans (too creepy for moi), but these Dip-dyed and Tie-dyed jeans coming out in Spring from Rich and Skinny offer a fun way to get in on the latest trends without much trouble or commitment!

Fashion is really coming to some extremes these days, from Tweed Runs in New York to designers trying to bring back ravers in Fashion Week. Regardless of which end of the spectrum extreme people are going towards, the point is Gen Ys are looking for costumes when they hit the street. That’s why our new Tumblr find, Halloween or Williamsburg could not be more telling of the influencer state of fashion. It feels like a Brooklyn “hot or not” site but will honestly make you wonder if they’re going out for a costume party or just to get a gallon of milk…
