Filed Under: Syfy x DJ Spooky’s Imagine Greater

Syfy’s new tagline “Let’s imagine greater” has morphed itself into a collaboration with Paul Miller aka DJ Spooky. For the campaign, the DJ creates “acoustic portraits” inspired by the geometry of nature in Antartica, to compare this “data record” with later records as climate change continues to reshape the arctic shelf. Spooky feels that this will offer  inspiration, instead of the failed attempts at inspiring environmentalism through guilt and fear, to stop climate change.  One of the final products is Miller’s Book of Ice, film stills and photographs from his trip to Antartica “as the entry point to contemplate humanity’s relationship with the natural world”.

Though we all know that product placement is a part of marketing and entertainment, sometimes we wish that it wasn’t just those big soda, fast food and booze brands starring in our favorite films and TV shows. Green Product Placement is looking to use their product placement background to get more green alternatives on the big and small screen. The firm works with film and television studios (like The CW and Netflix) to place greener alternatives on sets. Not only does the small firm already cater to sustainable big wigs like Pirates Booty and Applegate Organic & Natural Meats, but they’re taking their sustainable ethos and applying it to the way they do business; no printing, coordinating with their brands warehouses to ship directly to sets to keep their carbon footprint in the green.

Gen Ys are so excited about the new Anchorman movie that the lastest trailer doesn’t have even one second of the upcoming film but is still being shared and watched all over the internet. Enjoy!

Here at Trendera we talk a lot amongst ourselves about what it means to be a guy today. When all the “End of Man!” articles were coming out last year, an internal debate raged about whether men today are actually fine with their increased equality with women or struggling with their identities, and whether women are embracing the “new sensitive man” or craving mustachioed manly men instead. (Points of view were usually divided along generation lines.) So we’re really interesed in Morgan Spurlock’s upcoming doc Mansome. Though it looks partially tongue-in-bearded-cheek, this is a fascinating subject…and Will Arnett and Jason Batemen’s presence doesn’t hurt!

Filed Under: Damsels in Distress vs. Last Days of Disco

First Whit Stillman film in ten years! First Whit Stillman film in TEN YEARS! Damsels in Distress opens today. While little can measure up to his Last Days of Disco (trailer provided below), I’m curious. Particularly because the Kate Beckinsale type character (preachy ice queen) is being played by Greta Gerwig. Also interesting that Stillman chose WASPy Harvard to be the backdrop of our time (rather than early eighties East Village).

In a world…where many movies are trying to reach so many demographics they’ve become a genre mashup remix…comes a film called TED.  Finally, a movie that is unapologetically true to it’s purpose: straight up, roll on the ground, laugh your ass off, funny.  Recently, comedies have become a mathematical equation of part dirty humor, part overly-girly romance and part depressing reality, attempting to pull in as many demos as possible.  Seth McFarlane, the creator of Ted (and Family Guy), doesn’t care who is offended and who is repulsed, he is delivering a film that is nothing but comedy.  We expect to see a refreshingly transparent film campaign that isn’t trying to hide what it is.

The Hunger Games movie drops Friday, and judging by these reactions people are pretty excited. Watch these teens grin, gawk, recite lines, and freak out while watching trailer in this edition of online web series “Teens React,” and you know that this film is going to be a big, big deal. Okay, and watching them get excited gets us pretty excited too!

Alright, I’m about to admit that I spent Saturday night wondering if Lindsey Lohan is going to make the comeback she needs on SNL. The answer is still up in the air, but Kristen Wiig’s rendition of Cinderella still has me cracking up today! Oh, also “Be our Guest. Be our Guest. Caviar.”

It started with Oprah’s tweet to fans asking (/begging) them to tune in to OWN. Now Oprah’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel has become an online hit, and the above footage of Maya Rudolph’s SNL Oprah skit (that didn’t make it into this Saturday’s show) is becoming a hulu favorite. Oprah’s network might be struggling, but she certainly seems to be the topic du jour!

The release of this Princess Bride wine proves that a branded product does not have to be about a current entertainment vehicle in order for people to go crazy for it. Farm Boy, fetch me that bottle!

Filed Under: Super Bowl Sup at The Dutch

Every year, Super Bowl Sunday culture indoctrinates a new, quirky tradition that allows the rest of us who will not watch another football game for the rest of the calendar year to stay interested; The Puppy Bowl, The Kitten Half Time Show, the real half time show, the commercials, the drinking games, the food. This year, Soho restaurant The Dutch takes this idea a step further by offering patrons the $99.95 Super Bowl Fried Chicken Feast that includes sixteen pieces of fried chicken, sides of cole slaw, honey butter biscuits, mashed potatoes and hot sauce. The meal feeds 4-6 New Yorkers in Soho, and 2-3 real Giants fans. The gourmet-ification of the Superbowl seems to be a Thing, with Tom Colichio spot Riverpark also offering reservations to a high-end buffet for the game!
