Filed Under: Artist To Watch - ZZ Ward

ZZ Ward is a singer/songwriter from Oregon who learned the tricks of the trade from her father- who played harmonica in blues bands.  Since childhood she has been inspired by her soulful vinyl collection, which includes Big Mama ThorntonHowlin WolfRobert Johnson and Muddy Waters.
With years of singing in smokey dive bars and juke joints under her belt, ZZ’s journey eventually led her into the tight hip-hop community in Eugene.  Her talents were tapped by helping write high-energy hooks for rappers.  The combination of her bluesy background and newfound fascination with beats lead her to where she is today.
She just dropped her newest mixtape, Eleven Roses,  which is currently available for free download.  She has written funky bluesy reinterpretations of some of her favorite hip-hop songs including Tyler, The Creator “Yonkers”, Childish Gambino “You Know Me”, Wiz Khalifa/Curren$y “Rooftops” and Freddie Gibbs “Oil Money”. The offering also boasts two originals produced by Kid Cudi/Cool Kids collaborators Blended Babies and two acoustic renditions of songs to be featured on her debut full-length, due out Spring 2012 on Boardwalk/Hollywood Records. Definitely one to watch!
