Adobe Quietly Surrenders to Steve Jobs, Builds Flash Alternative
The new service is called Adobe Edge, the infrastructure is based on HTML5 so it will work on your smartphone or iPad, and there were over 50,000 downloads of the preview package in less than twenty-four hours.
Adobe claims that the introduction of Edge won’t obliterate Flash. Personally, I’m torn. As a web developer, Flash has been dead to me for awhile. The majority of my clients specifically request (without me saying a word!) “No Flash, please!”. As someone with an interest in online gaming, Flash is still the preferred way to create games. Only time will tell whether a Flash-based game like Farmville could be built with Edge instead.
