FILED UNDER: Benzel at the Bootleg
Hundreds of kids lined up outside the Bootleg Theatre in Los Angeles on Tuesday night to see a couple of teenagers from Osaka, who met each other on an R&B message board and record under the name Benzel, play their first ever US show. With a closed RSVP list, this free event got a lot of buzz not only because the guys are showing up everywhere on lists of "Bands to Watch for 2013", but also because of the surprise guest appearance of singer Jessie Ware, who the band collaborated with on the hugely popular track "If You Love Me." Opening for them was Norwegian producer Cashmere Cat, who was also having his first US show.  Anyone who waited two hours to see Benzel’s neon-filled cat-friendly glow-in-the-dark set would agree, no one does it like Umi and Yoko.
