People and brands on Twitter are starting to take the idea of “following” from the virtual Twitter world to bring it to real life in a very literal way. Taylor Swift, who has over 20 million Twitter followers, has invited a few of them to “follow” her on her week-long daytime television tour in New York for her fourth album. Also jumping on the trend is pizza chain Mellow Mushroom, with their campaign that promises customers, “If you follow us, we’ll follow you.” Hidden cameras recorded twenty followers being stalked by the company’s strange mushroom mascot, turning the innocent idea of “following” into a slightly creepy one.
